So my ex boyfriend and I are still friends but sometimes he says thinks that make me think he still loves me. He still says I'm beautiful and cute but also sometimes we grab lunch together. He also still gives me advices on things and I feel like he is just waiting for me to grow a little bit when we dated I was 19 and he was 24 at that time. I asked him direct if we would get back together and he says "ermm probably not". I just feel like he is holding something back tho and not telling me. He also says we would still be friends in the future (like having a job and kids and such). He also came to my birthday dinner which was a bit surprising.

Guys I have very mixed feelings about this and many more details for this story. But he basically ghosted me for 2 months (break up which I didn't realize at first as being ghosted) Then he explained everything to me and we still remained friends.

Dont fall out of your seats ladies but this here is a textbook gentleman and genuinely cares about you. It's more rare than finding a diamond in your poop but there are guys who feel deeply enough about a female that he will be there for her no matter what. You mean something to him and weren't just "SOMEBODY THAT HE USED TO KNOW"... Respect his words when he speaks because I know already he won't bullshit you. If he says probably not, that means probably not, so dont get it twisted. However, respecting your feelings is important to him, so dont be afraid to open about your feelings with him if it's something you might want. Who knows. Maybe a compromise can met and you guys could start to take things slow. As a realist though, i might add that you dont want to get your hope's up over any living organism.
