A pediatrician , like any M.D. has to avoid at all costs emouional nvolvment with his patients because most of the kids a doc will see are ill and not all of them will be cured, some will die, notwithstanding the sience and the efforts of the pediatrician.
Any doctor who gets emotionally involved with his patients will end up with a depresson.
I know that. I have a way with kids. They are so simple, honest and pure but that doesn't mean I won't be mature enough not to get attached. A doctor does he's best not to be emotionally involved as I will too. But no matter what section you take, pediatrics or not, you have to work a lot on this.
Wow, really? I understand the theories behind not liking kids, but you were a kid once. The instinct to nurture applies to our adult friends and family members too, not just children.
I understand nurturing and caring.. but not maternal (mothering) instinct. I really don't get it. Like people want children and I guess I'm more so confused as to why people want children but I suppose people who do want children get confused when people like me don't.
Maybe if you had a little child who cries but calls your name if hurt, a child which lifts their little arms hoping you will hold them, a child who crawls into your bed because they are scared at night, a child which imitates acts of kindness because they want to be like you, a child who draws you and themselves in crayons. Have you ever been hugged by those little hands? It is the purest and the most beautiful connection two humans can make. Because one of them IS pure and innocent. =)
LOL that little story reminds me of when I was at baskin robbins the other day. I was getting ready to get some ice cream while waiting for my friends to meet me somewhere and this little girl keep following me, going up to me and trying to hug me. It was so cute, but at the same time ackward because I didn't know the parents and I was trying not to look bad.

Well, it kinda answers the question, doesn't it :P
I had a maternal instinct at a VERY young age, but I intend on waiting at least a year to have a baby
I hope you have considered looking for a job in child care.
Actually I want to become a pediatrician, which is why I started med school. =)

I think maternal instinct is weird.. how can people like something that screams and craps itself?
