Am I just a close friend?

I know this is the most basic question..
but I found myself rlly liking my best guy friend and I have no clue if he feels the same. To sum it up, we met on a dating app and ended up as good friends 3 years later. He has a lot of female friends so it’s hard for me to tell but Anyway.. we text each other everyday & stream movies together but as of recently we’ve been talking on the phone pretty much everyday for hours. We’ll play video games, watch movies/shows.. have deep convos. I notice he feels a lot more comfortable around me, we banter a lot and say flirty things here and there. He even jokes about a lot of stuff sexually? I don't know if he just sees me as a good friend? Or if he feels the same. He’s always the one to initiate the phone calls and I can tell he looks forward to it everyday. Any thoughts?

I have always failed to understand why people torture themselves asking questions and wondering about a number of things.

This uncertainty could be easily answered by just asking the target person whether his/her feelings are reciprocated. What is so difficult about it? If the person does not reciprocate your feelings, then you know it and then you know how to behave accordingly.

It is better to lose an acquaintance because you were honest enough to ask rather than to keep a friend and have doubts. You are only making it hard on you because you will never know what you want so desperately to know...
