How can I tell if he caught feelings or was just hoping to sleep with me?

This guy I know used to spend a lot of time around me and talking with me. He engaged in conversation and remembered so many details. We would have a great time talking about similar interests and hobbies. This went on for quite a while. He would do nice things for me, and just be pleasant to be around. He never said he liked me romantically, and since he was so easygoing around me, I thought he was my friend.

He got really weird with me though and changed instantly. He rejects any act of kindness I do towards him, he's rude, disrespectful, and he constantly pushes me away. I've tried talking with him before, but he just keeps doing the same thing. So I stay away now and don't talk to him at all and he acts bothered by this lack of attention.

Could he have developed some unwanted feelings? Or was he pretending all along in hopes of sleeping with me? Maybe it's neither but that's all I can think of.

Maybe both, but likely uncomfortable with the fuzzy mushy feelings you instilled because of being too macho & worried about ego, image & what the guys might think or say of him as he already feels weakened. A man however, is his own man. He should learn how to convey the feelings in what reflects a man's regard for you... his mannerisms & demeanor in the way he looks upon you & touches you. Strong attraction takes my breath, races my pulse, feels like zooming down a hill , maybe a slight tremble... that is powerful , like a drug. That is though, what makes touching & intimate interaction powerful when recognized & utilized to his advantage rather than his defeat. there's also always the chance he is just an asshole & trying to manipulate you by using your own feelings against you.

Hard to tell. I feel he's being genuine as a person. A friend as you state.
Other guys answers seem to sense the same as well.

It sounds very much like @GingerGuy describes it. You can highly feel there's some misunderstanding or misinterpretation or so.. confusion in his mindstate in genenral. It may even be that he has grown to hate himself.. not sure but he doesn't sound being stable as he used to be.

That you'll need to investigate. Simply let him speak it out in the best manner or approach you see.

But before anything, if you had always been as friends, then just let it be.
Whenever you feel like it, send him a greeting and how've you been and how's it going.

Funnily enough, you want his long answer on these questions this time.

Can you think of anything that happened around the time when he instantly changed? That's the problem, there's always a lack of communication and maybe he's made assumptions as a lot of people tend to do. But only he can answer this. It could also be nothing to do with you? Just a possibility like other personal things going on in his life (ie he's changed in general with everyone) or maybe bipolar or something? But if he won't talk to you about it, then? You can always try approaching the subject again. Say something like "we used to have great conversations etc, and now something is different and changed and I don't know what it is? Are you ok? I miss our friendship."

He got the message about Simp behaviour.

He did not wanted to be just a friend to you and now he is ignoring you until you will get back, with 'would you like to be more then just friend' or something similar.

In case he would want only to F* you, most likely you would see more hands on and offers/ talks about it all the time.
