So I've been friends with this guy for a year now. We met in a class last spring and stayed in contact throughout the summer and into fall.
We would sit and talk for a few hours between class every Tuesday and Thursday. We went to a football game together and went to a movie where we ended up hanging out and talking in his car for like 7 hours, until around 2am.
We talk about anything and everything. Deep conversations are our forte, topics like mental illness, love, relationships in general, etc. We went through a few months where we would compare men and women we found attractive (yes he even said men he thought were hot lol). We confided in each other.
I developed a crush on him and honestly thought he liked me. All signs pointed to that.
But a few weeks ago, I found out that he came close to dating a girl back in December.
Now our friendship had lost its spark a bit at the time, later found out it was because of her, but still. We did hang out twice in December, I'm not sure when he was talking to her but what we did was fairly date like. We went to get coffee, then he wanted to park his car and talk for a bit (which we did for like 4 hours) and we got coffee a second time and that one lasted even longer.
He has drunk texted me many times, always asking me relationship questions (my first kiss, have I had sex, my first heartbreak, etc.)
I confronted him about talking to me the way he does when he was talking to another girl and he said because he was no longer talking to her he felt like he could "be a better friend to me" and that I "wasn't a rebound."
And he has become an immensely better friend. I recently have dealt with some tragic situations and he has been there for me the entire way. Letting me talk and rant and be cranky. He's been very affectionate, telling me he cares for me and how he'd be "devastated" to lose me. He's even had nightmares about my death lol.
I could go on about the signs he likes me but not enough characters.
