A guy friend seems to spend a large amount of money of me despite my dislike of this, how can I stop him?

Hi, So I have a guy in my life who spends a ludicrous amount of money on me even though I've told him not to. We did go on a few dates a few years ago but it ended quite quickly (due to the money thing and timing for me) so nothing really happened between us. It became pretty awkward but recently we've reconnected and the conversations seem decent. However, as of this week, in particular international womans day I were sent flowers by some other guys in my life in which I posted on social media. I'm not sure if the guy in question felt threatened (no need to at all!) or what but he bank transferred me £100. His reasoning being, it was international womans day (I did transfer this money back). Its not that I don't appreciate the gifts, it's the sheer amount he's spending when we're not even dating. I'd rather he would save this money or put it to better use. It also makes me feel as if I owe him and I am not keen on this pressure:( I just much prefer small gifts or days out (as this guy knows by now). But, me and this guy get on really well and conversations have been good, it's just the money thing that puts me off. I just wish I could convince him that he should not feel the need to spend such a large amount! I'm just unsure on what else to say to him and above all else I want to at least remain friends. Any opinions are greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!:)
