He said it was a joke but it upset me?

I sent the guy I’ve been seeing for 5 months a picture of me with one of those dog filters on from Snapchat because we’ve had a joke about it in the past. He sent me a message back saying ‘I don’t see the difference with the filter’. I asked him what he meant by that and he said he was only joking.
It upset me because I thought the joke was in poor taste and would have thought he wouldn’t make a stupid joke like that in the first place.
Maybe I’m being overly sensitive, but there was a million things he could have responded to the picture with but instead he chose a comment like that and then brushed it off as a joke.

You are being overly sensitive. Maybe he was trying to make a little joke, taking a friendly little jab. Maybe he thought it looked cute and thought that you looked cute with or without it. If you're going to jump to conclusions, why not jump to a conclusion that you like? I don't think that that's an unusual thing for friends or couples to do.

‘Friendly little jab’. Do you really think it’s appropriate to make a jab at someone’s looks? He’s basically compared me to a dog. Joke or not, it was in poor taste. I don’t think I’m jumping to conclusions when he had to defend himself by saying it was a joke.

@JJm1234 I agree completely. I'm sure he thought it would be harmless but I cannot help but agree that it was poor taste. There are times to joke and times to not. This is the latter in my opinion.

It’s interesting that you say that because I do have pretty thick skin when it comes to comments made about myself. But when they’re coming from someone that’s supposed to care about me, it’s different. It was a bad joke that didn’t need to be made in the first place.
