Why does he insist I be alone with him?

So this guy im friends with (we both expressed our feelings to each other but haven’t made it official) wants me to visit his state and since its my first time meeting him i wanted to go with a group of our friends together but he insists i go alone on a date with him. Even after the date he still wants us to be alone together during the trip, what are his intentions?
