Why would he be thinking about me?

I spoke to an ex who I haven't spoken to in over 2 years, (I text an unknown number that turned out to be him). He said it was really strange because he had been thinking about me that day. He also said "I will always talk to you". What does that mean? He kept saying he wants to talk to me again and it is really nice to talk.

He updated me on his life and he's moved far away. He is still single and probably will always stay single because he doesn't want marriage and kids, and also likes his own space. Maybe we be could be friends if it's possible. He said he wants to speak again, and I think he probably feels lonely after uprooting his life.
Why would he be thinking about me?
