Why do some guys become territorial over a girl they're not dating? Especially when they themselves are in a relationship with another woman?

Question one: Why do some guys get jealous when another guy starts talking to a woman that they had sex with?

Question two: Based on what I've said below does it sound like this guy was jealous?

This guy cheated with me a couple of years ago. We had sex once while he's been in a relationship. (it's bad I know) I usually see him where he works because he works at a store that I go to. A couple of months ago when he saw me talking to another guy (his coworker) he came over to where we were and interrupted our conversation. He overheard this guy name Rick (his coworker) telling me that he had done something fun. And then he came over and stood between us saying (how was it?) I don't know why he would do this.

Today when I saw him I told him I got a job working at a museum. And I told him I wasn't sure about it because it's really classy and elegant. And then he said I'm classy and elegant

I honestly think he’s being possessive to you. You two had a physical relationship but this hasn’t developed in something more, probably he built some castles in his mind.. or he thinks you two have a special bound for some reason.
I honestly suggest you to speak to him directly since he’s being jealous and possessive, if you see his behaviour like that another time.

Sounds more like territorial than jealous. If he knows you’re interested, then that’s definitely it (him being territorial). If he was jealous because he likes you, you’d be his already.

People can be jealous of someone they aren't with this kind of thing happens all the time. But it makes no sense for him to be territorial over me when he's in a relationship with someone else.

But if he knows your available and he wants you, what’s stopping him? If he REALLY wanted you he’d break it off with his current girlfriend and be with you. From the way you express yourself questioning his behavior it sounds like you like him, and want the reassurance that he is jealous because he likes you too. He could very possibly be jealous because he feels you are “his” territory, meaning the girl he can talk to, flirt with sometimes and keep as an option for later. Doesn’t mean he wants you.

I get what you're saying but I never said I wanted to be in a relationship with him that's not the reason why I asked this question. I'm asking because I don't get why he'd act like this when he's in a relationship. "It doesn't mean he wants me" if he didn't want me then why would he be territorial when he sees me talking to another guy? If he doesn't want me he should be happy that I'm talking to someone else.

Men are not like women, they don’t get jealous BECAUSE the want the girl. They can get jealous because they feel she is the one they talk to, or flirt with, or cheat with when no one else is available. IF YOU talk to another potential guy he will lose your attention, because you’d be interested in someone else and that will hurt his ego. If you really want to know why he’s jealous, ask him what he thinks of you. If he’s interested in you, he should give you a positive response hinting towards that he likes you more than friends or aquantainces

He CAN be jealous, but not for the reason you think or want. Him being jealous for any other reason than him wanting you, IS HIM BEING TERRITORIAL.

I’m not saying with certainty he doesn’t like you, I’m just saying from what I know of guys who are immature and irrational and tbh not worth your time as he is displaying weird behavior. I think there is a miscommunication a man who is in a relationship with another woman shouldn't be jealous or territorial of a woman he's not dating for ANY reason. He and I only had sex ONCE therefore it makes no sense at all for him to be territorial over me. And if he weren't jealous of me talking to another guy then he wouldn't have interrupted. I'm not going to ask him to go out with me knowing that he has a girlfriend. I didn't ask this question because I want to go out with him. I asked because it's odd that he would be territorial or jealous when he's in a relationship. Honestly, there is no way that you could know what he feels about me. Just because he hasn't left his girlfriend doesn't mean he can't like me.

You’re literally not understanding anything. HE MIGHT BE JEALOUS BECAUSE he feels you’re his territory. The girl he cheats with when no other girl is around to sleep with. Honestly why waste time wondering about a guy who cheated on someone with you. If you were talking to another guy he will lose access to you. He likes that access why wouldn’t he when you so willingly slept with him knowing he’s with someone else. I don’t know for sure what he truly feels, but this is textbook and it’s common. You read the opinions of guys on this post too, none of them told you “it’s cuz he wants you”. But you wanna waste time thinking about that guy, be my guest. I’m a stranger and I tried to help.
