Why are some guys rude to every girl apart from their girlfriend?

I understand someone being uninterested in everyone apart from their partner, but why are some men extremely rude to every other woman, and are extremely defensive over their relationship?

Eg. This guy I know calls other girls “ugly” and “sluts” to their faces in front of his girlfriend. He goes above and beyond to insult other girls when she’s around. Why?

With the exception of the guy who calls other girls that, I'd say that it may appear that some guys are "rude" to girls who aren't their girlfriend because most girls are by default treated exceedingly well by guys.

Most girls, especially pretty ones go through life thinking that guys are just so nice (laughing at their stupid comments, opening doors, offering things, etc.), and only recognize what it's like to be treated normally (ie to be "invisible") when they're over the hill.

Probably 2 make sure his girlfriend knows that he is not interested in any of the other women
