Me and my guy friend confessed that we like each other, two days later he says he needs time to think?

Please I really need some insight on this.

Me and my guy friend have known each other for a year now, we've always had great chemistry and we get along super well. This is something my other friends have noticed too!

Anyways fast forward a week ago, me and my guy friend met up for drinks and the next thing I know we're talking about our friend group and my guy friend was like "You think there's something between us?" I said yes and he agreed, we talked about it a bit and then he said that this can be our first date and we can continue to see where it goes if I want. I agreed with him then we spent more time together and the "date" ended with a kiss. This is all initiated by him by the way.

Two days later, I see him and we go for a walk and then he starts talking about how he needs to think about what's going on between us more, that he's never been in a relationship before and he wants to take things super slow and he's sorry if he gave me the wrong impression by kissing me that night. I said if he's having doubts about this we can just remain friends and end it. He said no, that he just needs some time to think and he wants to talk to some friends about this. He also said that because he had to see me as a friend this whole time, it's a bit difficult now to see me as something else, so he just wants to take it very slow. I didn't take it personally and I just said okay, then we kept hanging out the whole day and we both went home.

Do you think his points are valid or is he just not interested and being nice? I'm only taken back about what he said because I guess I feel I was a bit tricked into thinking we both liked each other or am I overthinking? We also saw each other with other friends yesterday, but nothing happened between us.
