Why do guys pretend to love some women and not others?

A couple of factors at work here, but if you understand them, they will explain the MAJORITY of this. Of course there will be a few individual exceptions to the rule, but don't get caught up in the exceptions, because exceptions are RARE. Focus on the rule, which is what applies 99.5% of the time.

1. Virtually all women, whether she's a 10/10 or a 1/10, are pursuing, almost exclusively, men who are 10/10, with a much smaller percentage who are "willing to settle" for 9/10 men. Most women have zero comprehension how high their standards are for men, and how rare the men they are chasing actually are, and how much competition there is for those few men, and thus, how much power those men have as a result. Those top 10% men have NO REASON to commit to ANY woman, because they can get every benefit that matters to most men from 1000 different women, so, instead, those men will get with a woman, get everything he wants from her, and keep her around until she starts being a hassle (and the biggest hassle is "wanting more") - at which point he'll dump her, make a phone call, and there's a replacement the next day, happy to give him everything he wants with no hassle - for a while. Then the cycle repeats.

Since nearly all women are pursuing JUST this group of men, and since they get used and dumped by nearly all of these men, women believe that ALL men are this way, because ALL the men THEY CHOOSE are this way. But the truth is that most women, even when they know the truth of this, STILL exclusively pursue these top 10% women, and ultimately would rather share such men than have to "date down" (i. e., date below what she feels she "deserves", even if SHE is a 4/10 herself).

2. Many women DO eventually figure out that they're not going to get anywhere with those top 10% men, and so they resolve to "settle" for a "lesser" man, but in most cases, she doesn't get to this point until she's in her 30s, and until she has a large body count, because she's been sleeping with the top 10% guys for a decade, even though she could never lock one down. These "lesser men" - generally still men who are above average (7s, 8s, and 9s, and maybe a few 6s) - are more than happy to sleep with these women, because they've had such little opportunity for sex prior to this - but they are also acutely aware that these women have been run through by men, and so they've put these women in the "only good for casual sex" category. They might pay for dates and give her gifts and so on, but they often still don't commit to her, much less marry her (yes, there are exceptions to this - simps exist!).

The women who, generally, get "real love" are the ones who pick men based on on their morals and values when she's still in her early 20s, and gets married to him and has babies with him, rather than a girl who picks men because he's hot and exciting and will (temporarily) elevate her lifestyle. Women who pursue the latter guys, or women who wait until their 30s to "settle down", are, as a rule, not going to find real love.
