Can't tell if this guy likes me or not should I ask him or wait to see if he says anything?

I work in a shop and I really like this customer that comes in now and again. I'm not sure if he knows or not I get really shy when I serve him, he's complimented me once and and makes conversation with me when I serve him but I dont know if he's just being friendly. He came in when my co worker was serving and I was just walking around doing stock check and we made eye contact and i got really shy and looked away then he whispered something to my co worker but i couldnt hear him properly and my co worker didn't tell me what he said so I'm thinking it's something bad now maybe he knows I like him I want to ask him if he's interested but I dont want to make it awkward with me being at work

He probably whispered something to her about you. Try to talk to him he sounds interested but you won't know unless you get out of your comfort zone a bit
