Why is it that when im sad, crying, and not talking instead of comforting me he stays quiet?

I’m sad and want to be comforted in silence that’s all. The main reason why im sad because i feel like he doesn’t love me but im afraid to say it. Him staying quiet feels like some sort of petty contest and it’s making me feel worse.
