I’m not his usual type, why is he so attracted to me?

So my boyfriend who I have been dating for over half a year has normally gone for girls so vastly different than me. I am far more reserved, not really wild and have only had two other boyfriends besides him. His last girlfriend was tatted, pierced and more on the wild side. I am not tatted, pierced or anything like her. The relationship ended in a bad way, but there had to have been some level of attractiveness at the beginning (they did live together). I just don’t understand how he could jump from that to a more reserved type of girl. I am more quiet and have lived a far less wild life than most. Is there a reason he changed his view on women and started dating me? I don’t understand how it could’ve changed so quickly they only dated for 7 months, and the relationship ended on a bad note, but both agreed to remain friends. He said I am the love of his life and he eventually wants to marry me, but he thought that about the last girl too….

people are not usually limited to date just one type of person... a lot of people are willing and open to date different types of people, this is a common thing

especially at your age... either you are 18, or 20, or 24, so all of you go back to at least three years, and three years at a younger age like is even more common for people to not limit themselves to "just one type and nothing else" there is trying different things, exploring and all that

most people change, or adjust... situations and circumstances also do that, they do change quicker when you are younger

but, do not see it as he changed his mind quickly to one thing or the other because chances are that he was not limiting himself in the first place... even if the two of you are vastly different in appearance or attitude, that does not have to be crazy either because maybe you had similar attributes for example, maybe she was attractive and so are you... maybe she was funny and so are you, maybe she was smart, and so are you... maybe she was an interesting girl at the moment, and maybe you are very interesting to him as well and as of now, just in a different way

and this is not unusual... at all, if I were to compare my first girlfriend to my last girlfriend, there are things about them that are "vastly" different, and the same would go with the girlfriends I had in between, there were plenty of very marked and obvious differences between them

however, they were all the same in a couple of things... they were all smart, they were all funny, they were all interesting, and they are all great people in general

so, maybe you should just stop worrying and comparing yourself to the past, ex-girlfriends... the past does not matter that much, you are his present now, and he is your present now... focus on that instead

I don't think there is ever a specific "type", it just means he liked some traits that type of girl has, and likes also other traits your type has. If you check the history of all guys exes you'd see anyway a lot of variety, same is for women.
I think now you are worrying to be not "enough" for him but while it's true some people are more compatible with others, he might not really know what is the most compatible type for him yet. And even so, typically, those requirements are about maturity and personality in order to make a good relationship, after learning from past problems with exes, not traits about fashion. And generally we start thinking our current partner is our "real" type, every time we get a new different partner, isn't it? So that means you are currently his type, nothing to worry about.
What I would worry about is thinking about marriage after only 6 months which is very immature because you don't plan an entire life together out of the first couple of years where the situation is still in the initial infatuation phase, the real relationship is something else there begins later and most couples don't survive that. He is just blinded by love at the moment, let him be and don't obsess over insecurities because if you start "teaching" him how worse you are compared to other girls, even if he doesn't think so, at some point he will start noticing and understanding what you mean, and see the flaws and lacks you want to "check". So don't try to convince him you are any less than other girls just to extract reassurements. Confidence is attractive regardless, teach him you are the best type by just not worrying about this. He is already believing that.
Nonetheless: the relationship with that ex ended. And in a bad way. So that's the proof it just didn't work. Makes sense to find a working relationship with another type of person instead.
