Is he taking things slow or friendzoning me?

I have hung out with this guy a handful of times and I’ve really enjoyed his company. He is 28 and I’m 22 if that helps somehow.
We are both focused on our faith and a lot of our conversations are about that.
I’m interested in him romantically but I am so confused how he feels. I want to ask him but I am afraid of messing up our friendship up bc I really value it. Hoping I can get some insight before I make a decision of what to do.
He texts me randomly, checks in on me, sends emojis like these a lot 😊🥰❤️
Seems to have an interest in getting to know me. Offers to help me with advice and support whenever I need it. When hanging out with a group he said “ I’ll pick you up so we can have more time together ☺️”
He bought me dinner and desert once and when I thanked him he was like “ of course it was your birthday last week!”
But I have since asked him 2x to hangout again and he has said we should invite other people (his cousin and his wife) along with us…
I’m so confused… I thought he was interested in me but I don’t think it’s a good sign that now he doesn’t want to be alone with me..
I’m thinking maybe he realized I’m catching feelings and doesn’t want to give me the wrong idea? Or maybe he’s unsure about me.
What do you guys think? Should I wait a bit longer or confess my feelings and confusion?
