Mixed signals from the guy I like?

The guy I like has been giving mixed signals and I don't know how to be around him anymore.

I only see him for a small amount of time at his work. I keep it professional but I gave the first impression I liked him, which he reciprocated, then every time I saw him he was friendly and visibly checked me out. I didn't give off any impression I was uncomfortable with that, but the next time I saw him he was very shut off, no eye contact, very little talk from him, so I never pushed further.

A few weeks passed before I saw him again, and he was immediately flirtatious, again, I reciprocated, then today I saw him and he was shut off. I don't understand why he yo-yo's, and it's /very/ hot or cold.
I would prefer him to make any move towards asking me out.
