How do guys feel about being called pretty?

Sometimes I call my boyfriend pretty, sometimes to his face and sometimes when I’m just talking about him. He seems to like it, and he gets a bit blush and smiley when I tell him he’s pretty which I find soo cute 🥰

His guy friends have tell me to not call him that cause ‘guys don’t like it’ and it’s probably embarrassing for him….
I think my boyfriend likes it though, and he genuinely IS so freaking pretty and beautiful, so it’s true 😆

Honestly 8n general, I would find it demasculinating. Everyone knows pretty is feminine and handsome is masculine. And as much as people today want to challenge these concepts, I am not one of them. I would thing it cute or funny.

I am a man, and I am proud of it. And to me it matters and I would expect her to respect that about me. I really don't care if people think its silly or sophanistic, or that in today's world it shouldn't matter. All that she should appreciate is that it matters to me and I perfer she stop calling me that. Its insulting to me and I would wish she to stop it.

At same time if you guy isn't saying these things to you, then maybe he is girly or some type of simp... and if find that attractive then so be it.

Pretty is not something you call a real man. So if she did not see me as a real man, and if she thought it cute or funny... then I would let her know that I don't think its either. I am not a joke, or little boy, or confused in any about my masculinity.

When you say that a women is a handsome women. That literally means you think of her as something other than pretty. Because if she was pretty you would say that. Now being a handsome women, doesn't mean she's ugly or unattractive... but she's not necessarily pretty either. Its not a complement or insult, but its not flattering... especially when its coming from and SO.

On the back of most men's minds whenever they have sex with a woman is that, on some level, she isn't doing it because she likes it but because she just wants to get pregnant. This isn't something we consciously think: it's buried deep into our instincts. But we want to get women off all the same and so we want women to want the sex. This is easier to believe if there is no chance of pregnancy either now or in future. Unfortunately, that's just not the way it can ever work between men and women.

However, it can work with gay women. When lesbians have sex it can only be for pleasure, as procreation is not even theoretically possible. Anyway, to answer your question, if a girl called me "pretty" that's a term usually reserved for women and so I would run through all this backstory and conclude that, if she is attracted to me, it could very well be in that pure-indulgence way that men seek. Though I'm well aware women are more comfortable imaging the possibilities than pursuing any of them, so I don't expect anything would come of it. Still amusing to know, however.

Yeah, I tend to clarify as I go on instead of saying what I mean upfront. If i hadn't lost you on the first sentence you might have discovered the second sentence, which explicitly stated "This isn't something we consciously think."

Like you found out, some men like it and some (seems like the majority) don't. Personally I like it. I think pretty is attractive, or at least nice looking, so I take it as a compliment. It sounds like your boyfriend does too. I know I've never called anyone pretty as an insult either.

Although, when it is taken badly, I have watered it down to "nice" as a form of damage control. Sometimes that's the best you can do if they think pretty is an insult. Nobody thinks nice is an insult, although it is really vague.

The first time a girl called me pretty would be the last time. Men do not want to be called feminine names - we want to called masculine names. Handsome, strong, rugged, powerful, decisive, etc.

It seems like your boyfriend is more feminine, and maybe you are into that, but most women aren't, and most men would not be OK with you calling him pretty.

Honestly I prefer cute instead. I used to hate those words, but I’ve learned to embrace it. I’m in no hurry to grow up, so I keep myself cleanshaven since I’m still a babyfaced young 20-something for a bit. I’ll probably grow out my facial hair again when I’m 27 or so.
