It's been 8 months of flirting be he hasn't asked me out yet, should I move on?

So I had this online friend for few years few months ago we picked up our conversation and started to talk a lot and now it's everyday we talk about anything and everything I was eager to open up to him but I did eventually he made me feel safe, I didn't like him at the start but he kinda grow on me and I think I'm starting to grow real feelings but the problem is that he hasn't asked me out yet even if he told me he likes me and he compliments my looks for time to time, and honestly I really don't care about the compliments they surely make me feel good but I expect him to make a move by now it's nearly a year I know the distance makes it hardt or maybe it's just me who's willing to make a commitment, anyways what made me question the situation is that lately I texted him good night babe and he replied with my nickname.. I thought he was unsure about how I feel because I'm not expressive by nature, but when I showed that I cared and I tried to call him pet names he didn't try to keep the pace. And now I somehow feel like I'm gonna lose interest if he keeps it at this level so I'm wondering I'm overreacting or he actually is taking too long? It's nearly a year and we've met once he asked me to travel with him but I couldn't go, does he want more of real life contact? I know you can't know these things but I just want your opinion about the situation

I think that you should try asking him out. If he doesn't want to do it, or it doesn't go well, then realize that it isn't a good idea. There shouldn't really be anything that's stopping you, and you guys have definitely invested in each other long enough to start dating and having a more serious relationship. Unless he is hiding something, or he really isn't that interested, it shouldn't be a problem to ask him.

Also, if you are afraid to ask him because you it hasn't gone well in the past and you don't think it will go well, then really think about that... I guess what I'm trying to say is that if it's the right decision, then it shouldn't be a problem to ask him about it.

Guys I thought about it but I didn't feel like I have the right to, plus where I come from doing that won't be helping, if I did ask him out it's surely not gonna last he'll always have this idea that I'm a sure thing and I don't have pride and bla bla it's a cultural thing I've done it once and I dumped him in the end he thought just because I asked him out I'd be easy or I don't know.. it's not that I don't want to but I can't.. you may not understand and that's fine
