Why did this guy react this way, when I gave him a compliment?

I work at a construction site and I gave a compliment to one of the contractors I sign in everyday. I had signed him in twice before and I just remembered thinking wow he’s so cute, so the next time I saw him I just nervously said “ by the way I’m not flirting but you are very handsome “ and he turned away from me and said thank you and drove off lol, I feel like he thinks bad of me, I have no interest in him really I just genuinely felt compelled to compliment him lol

YOu should not feel bad. He basically said, "I think you are cute too" just in case you are interested. No loss either way if you don't go out. He would like to do that by the way.

@spartan55 giving attitude towards someone complimenting you beyond a thank you is telling you are insecure and don’t realize people can compliment with no intention beyond. And yes women do this a lot also where they act snooty towards someone complimenting

@spartan55 we aren’t there for 100% of the events people go looking for advice on but I am here to comment based on the story given. If they have to lie on an anon forum to validate their point, I think that’s their own issue. And again, people are insecure and think compliments have some kind of agenda when in reality you can literally compliment someone and not expect anything in return
