Is this guy joking?

Okay so I had a lot of problems regarding my job and was moved from a department I was working in for years. I met a guy in there and he tried to help me with management etc, as a thank you i bought him a coffee and left it in my friends office. She told him that I had left him a message in there …. And he said to her “is it her number” could this just be a joke? I mean would guys say this without meaning behind it? I don’t see him as often now but when I do he hugs me etc … when I worked in the department he would say things which I believe showed interest, he would ask me things like, do you walk your dog or does your man walk your dog? opinions please?

This is an easy one.

Yes, it does indicate interest. No guy is going to make this "joke" without there being a genuine hope/(meaning) behind it.

Real-talk: He said it... because he hoped it would be interpreted EXACTLY as you're interpreting it. (not like this was some consciously calculated plan... but it was certainly an unconscious "plan").

So he makes this "joke" to a co-worker and mutual friend knowing full-well that it's going to be passed-on to you. (or at least make it clear to this other friend, that he is interested in you... for more longer-term 'trying to get-with-you" plans).

Either way, he said this with full-knowledge of its implications. It was a way to make-clear his interest in you (to this other friend). He also definitely realized it was likely a comment you were going to hear about.

Coupled with the other signs of interest you've noticed... there's no doubt whatsoever about what this comment means.

He was "joking" (insofar as he didn't really think you had left him your number in the message with the coffee).

He was dead-serious about WISHING you had.

It definitely means the "best-case-scenario" of what you think/hope it might mean. 🙂
