Why do people get so offended if you dare to disagree with them online?

I’ve been told to bury myself in a coffin, I’ve been told I was a moron and a slut and a harpy just for innocently and politely giving an opinion that happened to not agree with the men I was speaking to. What’s their problem?

Its a couple different factors. Some people are generally too immature to separate their own feelings from a topic of debate, they assume it's a personal attack when someone disagrees.
Secondly which is kind of a continuation of that, they believe that they're ideology or opinion is the morally right one and thus someone who disagrees with them is bad.
Combine these with the fact that online anonymity makes people more mean since they can do so without consequence, and you have people who send death threats if you don't like the same music as you.

Because your confidence in your own beliefs makes them doubt the legitimacy of their own. Many posters here are simply followers. That's why they are always telling you to watch some youtube video or go read something by some pundit. They don't have any real understanding of the positions they tout, so they can't defend them using rational thinking or logic. So they resort to name-calling, insults, and threats.

That's the only language they really understand.

Because you're not just disagreeing with them. You're threatening the very foundation of who they think they are.

Opinions are formed by experiences, understanding, motivations and your general view of the world.

Going agaisnt that makes someone question everything they've used to establish their place in humanity up to this point, and it pisses them off

Because people are looking for validation of their ideas or they think that their view on something is perfectly and obviously infallible. Some people are also so invested in their beliefs on things, but don't know why they believe what they believe or how to engage with people who think differently.

becuae in this day and age many people think that thier opinion should be taken as gospel and do not like to be challenged.
So if you do not agree with them and call them on it they do not know how to react for fear that they might actually be wrong, so they just lash out at that person.
It all started when we stopped keeping score, no one loses and everyone get a trophy.
Sadly all of that did not prepare them for the real world.
