Guy friend claims he's not in a relationship? Says it's his ex, even though his and her Facebook clearly claims they are in a relationship?

I've known this guy for a few years now, I'm not stupid and I confronted him about it and he told me that that was his ex. When I confronted him he quickly set his Facebook relationship status to where he could only see. And took a screenshot for me. I was like, um, why are you doing this? He then swore up and down again it was his ex girlfriend. LOL In all my years I have never seen something like this, I'm not sure why he would do that? He claims he wants to date me, welp, I guess I'm gonna have to ghost him, because he's obviously lying? Can anyone explain who would do such a thing?

Update - he updated it where she was in the relationship alone for a day and then the next day she was in the relationship back with him. I have been single for 4 years and wouldn't let an ex add me to his relationship status. I can see if he was planning to leave her but he won't be honest with me and I don't like liars.
