Why did the guy I’m talking to ask me for time apart, but keeps showing up to places he knows I am?

He asked for time apart after an argument we had. Which I’ve been giving him, I haven’t contacted him and I sent him a message once just to check if he’s ok which he replied to and he said he hopes I’m doing well to. I was dancing at an event where I attend every week, he knows about that and has been coming for me in the past. He still turned up and I don’t know why if he doesn’t want to be around me. And then on the weekend I was at a bar I saw his best friend there. We spoke for a bit 30 minutes later he arrives again. And we ended up having a private conversation which confused the whole time apart from me even more.
