Guy's Behavior

His behavior confuses me?

We have been seeing or hooking up with each other for about 8 months now and it’s always good when we are together and yes we are exclusive. But it’s so weird when we are not together, he pulls away, he needs a lot of personal space and he’s a terrible texter. I am trying my best to give him space and trying not to bother him when he needs space but it happens wayyy too often and my love language is quality time. He doesn’t want to see me when he goes through things, he doesn’t want to see me when he’s sick and he always wants personal space. I feel like it’s always on and off between him, things are great one week and bad the next week and it’s a circle and it happens all the time. He says that he likes me, and he does act like he likes me too, we go around in public together, we’ve met each others friends and everything is working towards a relationship but I am so sick of this on and off weeks. I really like the dude but his behavior keeps affecting my mood and I can’t seem to communicate with him. I don’t know what to do…

Just additional info, he pursued me first and I left him hanging for 3 months before I gave him a chance, now why does it feel like he’s playing me?
