Why do some men like child-like personalities in women?

Not all men, obviously. But I noticed the grumpier and the more serious the man is the more he likes it when I am being my childlike self. I am not totally child-like and that’s just a small portion of my personality but it still made me wonder.

I noticed it from one of my coworkers, who was very grumpy when I first went there and he has been smiling every time now and he seems to be quite entertained by my actions, which I don’t do on purpose, I am just being myself.

He is also very helpful to me. I was wondering if he is one of those men who are attracted to that type of personality.

I must say I am sometimes a bit childlike, but it has helped me handle life better, because If I allowed life discourage me and break me then I wouldn’t be childlike. So, I don’t see it as a very bad trait, I am trying to improve, but I don’t want to lose that trait entirely either.

So, I was now curious, why is that certain coworker so helpful to me and why does he find it adorable that I can be today he run late to his own appointment just to help me out about a thing. I wonder, does he feel protective of me or something? Because I can imagine a lot of men could find the exact same traits annoying.

I don’t like him or anything, plus I might have to soon leave that job, if my visa can’t be issued on time, I was just curious.

I’m one of those men, so I can speak from experience.


I believe it has to do with complementary energies and also because I have a natural inclination to be protective and nurturing.


I work long hours in an intense high pressure position with many teams and projects to manage.


When chaos arises, I need to have the mental fortitude and focus to sort it out and carry my team sometimes.


I’m in a leadership position with a lot of responsibilities and I report directly to the CEO.


I have to have my sh*t together at all times as the CEO has very little patience for errors and inefficiencies.


He’s not afraid to fire—and has probably fired about half of our hires (or more) so far.


Performance and results are of utmost importance.


Being so intense all day, all week, can get me feeling restless.


But, when I’m off work, my significant other has a childlike personality that I’m able to bring out.


I take care of her and she feels safe and protected around me, which allows her childlike side to come out more.


Her energy contrasts with mine and helps puts me at ease.


It’s a break from the intense work day and intense work week.


I can relax with her and enjoy her more carefree energy, which helps my mind go to a more fun a playful place as well.


At work, I’m like a high performance military operative that gets sh*t done.


Off work, with her, she brings a more nurturing and attentive ‘Daddy’ energy out of me, haha.


I suppose I have a soft spot for that kind of thing.


It helps me let my guard down a bit.


There’s also a bit of intimacy and vulnerability with this dynamic as well.


By her letting this side of herself out, it’s like she’s saying, “I trust you.”


And by me making sure that she’s protected and cared for is like me saying, “Don’t worry. I got you.”


And, I know it wouldn’t be quite the same if I was with someone who did not have a side like that at all—someone who was hard-charging, intense, and ambitious.


They may be a great business partner or team member to work with.


But off work, such a personality wouldn’t really help put me at ease.


I’d still be wound up, ready to fight another battle together.


With a constant push to accomplish more, it would be more difficult to slow down, enjoy the present, and set tasks aside to enjoy a moment of rest.


It would handicap the romance a bit.


The vibe just wouldn’t feel quite right.


An atmosphere of war rather than love, even if we are fighting alongside each other as a team.


To really enjoy love, it takes an intimate atmosphere, and that can be difficult with two equally strong dominant energies.


I suppose it’s like that Yin Yang concept of soft and hard energy, complementary to each other, attracted to each other, but very different.


Every person is special though, and their ideal chemistry and energetic counterpart will be unique to them.

Another thing I forgot to express is that a child-like personality can bring out a person’s fatherly instincts or protective big brother instincts.

In a non-romantic context…

Perhaps it reminds them of their little sister.

Or perhaps it reminds them of their daughter.

I am also not like this with everyone.

I guess his personality helps me feel free to be like this at work.

I have no wish to act child like around lots of other men, because I sense when it will be looked down, being annoying or something, so I am not always myself, I can act quite intelligent, smart, mature and ambitious, but I am my happiest when I can feel free to be myself, which is a little bit childlike.

Now I don’t feel any romantic interest in that coworker of mine and probably neither does he, but I feel relaxed at work and I like the fact, that there’s someone who likes the way I am and feels protective and helpful to me.

I am quite independent so sometimes letting my childlike side out can be a way for me to relax too.

But yeah, you’re right. There are plenty of people that are more uptight and look down at anything that doesn’t come off as ‘adult’ but for me personally, a little personal flare makes someone much more interesting and enjoyable to be around.

It’s possible to be oneself and still do great work.

Some people seem to just have a lower tolerance for that kind of thing though.

But, it’s suffocating to go through life without embracing ones authenticity and individuality.

People who suppress their authenticity and individuality tend to want to ‘escape’ their life, and that’s not a very fulfilling way to live.

So, I think it’s great that you have an outlet for it—even if just a little.

Could you describe what you mean by child-like personality or when you act "child-like"?

Does it mean things that might include happy, wide-eyed, smiling, innocent, animated, energetic, uninhibited, curious, playful, fun-loving, full of wonder, ...

I always liked similar characteristics. I knew some of my co-workers personally. Some of them were really fun and acted normally when out of the office, but put on a completely different personality during work. Even their voice was different.

Police officers are the same way. I've been friends with some. They were totally fun when not at work. But when in uniform they acted commanding and authoritarian.

I never wanted to be like that. Of course I can be serious, focused and business-like when I need to. But I didn't want to have multiple personalities. I felt like acting authoritarian and dominant like a cop or a father to a child would mean that life was over and I was just a programmed robot. I'm too rebellious and anti-authoritarian for that. I like to enjoy the wonders of life.

I was, and still am, a boy at heart. And my behavior is boyish, tempered with reason and maturity. I mention that because boyish (male) childish behavior is different from girlish (female) childish behavior.

When girls act child-like, boys think it's super cute. That means that grown men are also charmed by women who can display child like qualities. I guess a lot of it is about youthfulness and joie de vivre.

The only thing that I differ on is having multiple personalities. I do absolutely understand where you're coming from; however, I just see it differently. I will readily admit that I have different personalities for different contexts, and that's totally okay. Allow me to explain, if I may: my true personality is VERY laid back. I mean REALLY laid back. Silly, goofy, and even sometimes mischievous. So I can't be this way -- I can't be "myself" -- in a professional setting. It just wouldn't fly. It would make me look like a bad employee and it would hurt my reputation. So I HAVE to have different "modes" in life. That's just what I need to do to survive.

I think they like innocence, the positive vibe. A men naturally want to protect, so if you're being cute, you'll only strengthen their resolve to do so.

If you mean child like such as insulting people, thinking I'm speaking a different language when I talk about mortgage rates, smoking weed or other drugs, drinking irresponsibly, partying, listening to trashy music like Cardi B, being a gold digger, materialistic, doesn't work, and is entitled?

If that's what you mean, the answer is hell no, I'd avoid her like the plague. If you mean she's happy, cracks some jokes, likes to play games, she likes to hug and cuddle, she likes to be romantic and enjoys doing things with me, then yes. Although I wouldn't label those characteristics as childish, as if I'm using that word, it's being done in a derogatory manner

I may have had a sad childhood and a sad adulthood, but I don't see how that's relevant.

The first things I said are childish because they have no concern over showing people respect, acting their age, and looking into the future rather than just focusing on what feels good right now.

Those are things that children do and isn't acceptable behavior for adults

I had an older male coworker in his 50s do this to my female supervisor who was 27. I watched him talk to her with a constant smile on his face. Quite simply, he has a dick, and she was attractive.

I’d say younger women in general tend to be child like and more vibrant. Compare that to my other coworker in her 60s who was very jaded and lived alone and was ready for retirement. She was suspicious of me at first, resentful even, I was new. It was complicated. But she was my partner on my shift and I did what I could to help her with department tasks. I treated her as I’d treated my own mother, despite her sometimes hostile attitude toward me. It took me awhile to gain her trust.

My former supervisor is actually one of my job references. I spoke with her a lot after she was terminated and I resigned shortly after. I don’t think it was right she was let go, but I was told it was for reasons before I’d ever arrived on site.

Men have a natural instinct to protect women and children. It's in our DNA. So the more feminine and childlike a woman is, the more this instinct is triggered. It fulfills a need so it is satisfying for a man... it's similar to how a women feels an instinctual need to want to have a baby. The man has a need to have someone to protect.

I think SOME guys it gives the a feeling of superiority. You have to understand deception is second nature to women. Guys, if they manipulate women, it starts around puberty. Women conversely learn to start manipulating from birth. Guys have brute force women have guile. So women become very adept at determine what a guy wants and pretending to be that. If she thinks she can gain favor by playing dumb she will. And the guy is stupid enough (at least in the beginning) to believe she really is this dumb. And that makes him feel superior. It not till months down the road when he finally finds out that she's slept with all his friends behind his back and has been laughing at him, that he's actually the dumb mutherf***er.😆

Well I could give you a couple reasons or justifications, but in the case of this dude it doesn't seem like there is anything romantic there so I'd assume it was because you remind him of the innocence and joy thats still in the world. There are tons of "grumpy men" that will melt like butter the second they have to interact with a child to the point that its a character trope.

It's nice and refreshing. I'm a pretty optimistic person myself, but I have to put up a shield of skepticism during most of my interactions with people because the world is full of manipulative sociopaths who view the trust and innocence of others as something to exploit for their own advantage.

Finding a woman who isn't either world-weary and cynical herself or a manipulative psycho is very refreshing and makes me want to protect her at all costs.

I don't know why, but it's completely true! And I'm one of those guys! I have always been endeared to the bubbly ones with childlike wonder. I think it's because of the purity of their hearts. And they're not afraid to be girls. They don't feel the need to pretend to be stuffy old wenches just to fit in with society. And that's what I love about them. Their independent free-spirited nature.
