Guys, Did he open up emotionally or was he trying to show how strong he is?

he told me that the problem is that he doesn't cry and it annoys him and that he tries but he can't and that tires him , he also said that even when he went through horrible things he didn't cry (even when his closest family member died) and a lot and a lot of things , then i told him to try talking with someone u trust (like siblings or family) he told me that no he can't bc they derive/get their power from him and he doesn't want to seem weak and then he told me that maybe bc he's the one who cares about people's feelings and no one cares about him or about his feelings

and then he said Im fine don't be scared

basically the whole chat was about how he doesn't cry even in the worst scenarios

This guy is suffering from being trained up in the two male stereotypes “guys have to always be strong,” and “guys shouldn’t be emotional.”


They’re both totally untrue, but they’re dinned into our heads so much that a lot of guys have problems with their emotions because they’re never given the training to be emotionally intelligent, and unlike girls, aren’t really “allowed” to talk about their feelings for fear of being seen as weak.


Best thing for him is to talk with a counselor. They’re wonderfully understanding and nonjudgmental people that can be there to listen, give advice, and help him unpack and process his emotions and feelings. Best part, they’re required by law to keep everything short of things like abuse of a minor or active suicide attempts totally confidential.


Tell him a friend told you that they know where he’s at because they’ve been there. Seek help. Don’t suffer alone when someone’s there to help you.

Not necessarily. I’ve heard of cases where people have gone through trauma or emotionally intense situations and can’t cry even though they want to and know that it’s appropriate for the situation. Something just gets stuck somehow in a way we don’t fully understand.

I have no idea. It maybe very difficult for him to cry and just hasn't found the trigger.
