Why do men feel compelled to remind you that you are a mortal?

I have had a few occasions when I just said “I am happy” or when I described something about my life and some men jump in to say “10 years later, you won’t be same.”

So what?

Do I go around and keep telling men, they’ll be older 10 years later?

Aren’t we supposed to get older?

What kind of bitterness is it to “threaten” a woman with the prospect of getting old?

If I happen to be alive 10 years later, I’ll be lucky, there are many people who die much earlier.

Why do some men need the necessity to remind women they’ll get old?

Do women do that? No!

So, what does it serve? Your moms, sisters, wives, girlfriends, daughters - every female will be 10 years older 10 years later, what’s the purpose of reminding me that?

People are getting old and new people are getting born, I know that. So what?

Dob’t I have a right to be happy while I can be?

“Only the dead stay 17 forever.”

Most men who say this are the type of men who’d have zero chance of conversing with me in real life.

It’s a sign of their insecurity and them feeling threatened or inferior.


The men that say that are the same men that believe that a woman’s value decreases as they get older while a man’s value increases as they get older.


This is an oversimplification of things, and it only applies to women who have nothing to offer but their beauty, and to men who are constantly bettering themselves.


To say your only valuable trait is your beauty, is insulting. And if they were the type of man to be constantly bettering themselves, they wouldn’t feel the need to put other people down.


These men that put women down like this want to believe that in the future, they will be ahead of you and you will be beneath them.


That thought, that narrative, makes them feel better about themselves.


All it really shows is what an inferior man they are.


Because an actual high value man would not talk to women this way.

I did that when I was a teenager. My mom chided me for being so negative. That kind of negativity seeps into other aspects of life. Stop! Focus on your desired end state, stay positive and don’t detract from another’s progress. Something Along those lines

This happens a lot with women whom men find really attractive as well. They'll try to find something to attack or berate them in some way because it'll make them feel more in control or powerful. They feel like they are taking you down a peg or two even though you haven't even done anything to them.

It's just all about insecurity. They aren't happy so they need to do or say something to you because you might actually be happy and they don't like that.

This is and sounds depressing. There are many good comments here already that I won't repeat. It's just unfortunate that some people are negative and have to bring others down. I will say I don't think this is just exclusive to men, not that you are implying that, but I have had women interest with me like this as well. Sometimes older people are just beat up by life and unfortunately try to or at least inadvertently bring others down around them.
