Why would a guy like me, but date someone who looks completely different?

I was at work today and a couple walked in. He was with his girl a short, heavy set girl.

Me, I’m a tall athletic-skinny build literally the complete opposite but I could feel his eyes on me the entire time as if he was interested. And it’s happened multiple other times.

If the guy was looking at you, it means he found you physically attractive. That doesn't NECESSARILY mean that he wants you for a *relationship*, and there's also the issue that me may feel that he couldn't be able to GET a girl as attractive as you are, so he might not ever go for girls who look like you, because he doesn't want to get rejected.

Many good-looking girls don't have the greatest morals, values, life-goals, or personalities - I'm not saying that's universally true, but it's not uncommon either. Just because you're physically attractive doesn't mean that guys will pick you for a relationship - at least, not without getting to know you first and vetting your personality, morals, and values, etc. - but they still LOOK because you're attractive, and the monkey brain part of them wants to bang you, because men are programmed to want to bang attractive girls.

It's important - always - to understand that there's a BIG difference between a man finding a woman physically attractive (and, thus, wanting to bang her, regardless of any other considerations) and a man choosing a woman for a relationship. Men will often trade down in looks to get a woman who is actually NICE, and who respects him, and who has similar morals, values, and life-goals, than to choose a woman he finds more attractive but who doesn't respect him, or has different morals, values, or life-goals.

Which part is confusing to you (honest question, not me being an a-hole)... the part where the guy with the short fat chick on his arm looks at the tall athletic chick or the part where maybe he finds two things attractive? I have art in the style of the old masters as well as modern interpretist in my house. I like steak and I like seafood. Maybe he likes both. I don't know... has he talked about what he's attracted to? Just because they're together doesn't mean he still finds her attractive. Maybe she wasn't always fat and he just stuck around.
