Yeah absolutely. I've got a couple of really close guy friends. They will send silly or funny messages that will make me laugh or smile. It helps get through the day. I also get funny pics of stuff they see. Those are always good and I do the same thing to them... send them funny shit I see on campus for example. I do find it cute and endearing because I know they are keeping me in mind and that is the sign of a great friend. Girlfriends do it too. I like the group chats the best.

I would think that’s just a normal thing to do regardless of whether he’s a male or female. I love had numerous friends who had surgeries, I’ve always asked how they’re doing or if they need anything. Man have to agree w the other males, “guy friend.”
