Do guys really reject a girl this way or it just me?

I've liked this guy for close to a year now and we met at church and became friends. I got tired of the mixed signals and bottling how I feel up... So I told him last night. That I liked him, that I've always liked him even though I know he doesn't like me back and that I don't like how he treats me sometimes when we are hanging out (he'll ignore me, distance himself, or even get jealous with other guys giving me attention). And he said the following:

"I already knew you did. You're a nice person and your sweet but sometime its just too much, and thats why i walk away. I dont do it to be mean or for you to take it the wrong way. I just need my space also."

I'm bubbly but I'm not annoying. I know I'm not ugly because guys have flirted with me in front of him before. But what the hell! This is a first... Decode. Lol help.

what else do you need from him that he hasn’t clearly stated?
guys are simple.

This type of guys know who they want/what they want and will not miss treat you. He is just being friendly at church. Don’t over think it.

It did. My delusional self thought "well he didn't say he didn't like me" but I know that's what he meant. The jealousy he had and mixed signals threw me off.
