Do guys set trap/test for potential wife?

I recently began receiving private messages from a guy on Facebook asking me out and stalking my pictures with likes and praises and asking for a date.

I don't know him but I have many FB friends due to accepting all requests which I no longer do. It's just that I'm yet to weed out the people I don't know.

Anyway I checked the guy's profile and noticed we have a mutual friend who happens to be my fiance. Do you guys think it's a trap to see if I will fall or something?

After confronting, he says the guy is his colleague but that he knows nothing. It's just a coincidence. My bad.
