Hello, I've known my ex since HS (we are now 25 & 26y/o). We broke up because I moved to another country but we still managed to stay in touch here and there throughout the years. I was in another relationship that lasted for a little more than 3 years and when I told my ex from HS about it in 2019, he cried on the phone. This was many years ago and we only congratulated each other on our birthdays during those years. The 3 year relationship ended. Just recently me and the HS ex started to talk a bit again and he definitely show signs that he likes to talk and open up about stuff with me. One thing he said was that his goal is "to be the weirdest guy I have ever known". What does that even mean? Could he still be interested in me? Feels a bit weird to ask for opinions from strangers, however... the mind is wandering in its own life and I could definitely need someone to talk to and regain my rational and logical thinking. Any advice or input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That's a tough one. On one hand, the fact that he cried years ago when he found out you were dating someone else definitely shows he still had feelings back then. And wanting to be the weirdest guy you've known sounds like he's trying to stand out or seem different from others.

But it's also been a long time since you guys dated, so who knows where his head is at now. I guess the main thing is - when you talk does he ask about you, seem genuinely interested in your life, try to meet up, flirt at all? Or is it more just casual catching up?

Either way I wouldn't get your hopes up too much or assume anything until you directly ask where he sees things. People can change a lot after high school. But maybe subtly try hanging out one on one and see how things feel in person before making any moves.

Watch his body language and see if it seems like more than friend vibes. Communication is key too - put it out there you're interested and see how he reacts. Then you'll know for sure where you stand. Hope it works out for you! Let me know how it goes.

He did ask about my future plans, what I'd like to do and where I'm heading in the next couple of years. He also asked about where I'd like to live and is also planning on visiting Europe 2024, which is where I'm based at nowadays. He lives in America today.
We did meet up 2019 before I met my ex from the 3 year long relationship. I went to visit him and his family in the country where he was born in for a couple of weeks.

I have thought about telling him about my confusion to clear things up. We definitely do have a past and it'd feel better to know whether or not he has any intention of wanting to "get to know me again". I do feel a bit uncomfortable about bringing it up but maybe it could be necessary in this situation. Will update you on the matter!! :)

Oh dang, this is all starting to sound pretty serious between you guys then! Asking about your future plans and where you want to live long term, talking about visiting you in Europe... that screams he's really interested in being a part of your life again. And meeting up with him and his fam a few years back, that's big relationship type stuff. I'd say there's no doubt there's still feelings there on his end. You definitely gotta have the chat to clear the air. I know it can be an awkward conversation, but ultimately it's the best way to know for sure where you both stand and if reconnecting is something you could both want to pursue. Getting on the same page would take the confusion away. Just be straight up about how talking again has made you feel and tell him you need to know if he sees potential there too. You got nothing to lose by talking it out dude! Really hope it goes well and you guys can really figure things out. Def give an update after - rooting for you! Just go in communicating openly and see where the chips fall.

Yes, a part of me thinks this too as we live in different countries, there's nothing but old good memories with him (at least from my part) and that is just a feeling. I do want to be rational and act on what's best for me in the longterm.
