When a man is being generous, is he just being nice or does he like me?

There is this guy who manages the local coffee shop where I get my regular morning Americano fix. He and I chat quite well and regularly when I do come in. He is always friendly and polite but lately our interactions have been a little different. I told him a like a week ago I will not be able to come in as regularly because I will be running out of money and pay day is only on 25 Jan. Today I went in and he asked me where have I been, and I reminded him about my finances and he said he told me that when I am broke, and he is on duty, he will organise me a free coffee. And that I should be on the lookout for him so I can get my free coffee...

Now is he just being nice and generous or is he interested in me?

I don't know if he does this with other clients or if he does this with me because I am a regular? Or if he is interested in me.

I would like to know what you guys think.

There is no such thing as generosity in such situations. Granted, he is the manager of the coffee shop but is he also the owner?

If he does not own the shop, then he has to report to the owner and if he offers free coffee left and right at his discretion, then he is stealing from the owner and that would be a reason to get fired.

Now, he will obviously not give free coffee to anyone telling him the story that he/she is broke. No, he does it because he wants something in return for the "favor" he made you. Don't be fooled, there is always an intention behind a seemly innocent gesture.

My SO is nice and generous by nature, he always ready to help others. So I had this doubt that how can we know some such kind guy is simply being nice or he is really interested. I asked him this question.

He answered that, yes he can be nice and helping to everyone but some sides like being playful, child like nature will be only and only with one person with whom he feels attracted to. He told it's male nature to whom he is attracted he becomes somewhat soft somewhat child like playful with that person like natural. And this is only for that one person. Like this you can know you are special for him not like everyone.

I run away from "generous" men... somehow I have a feeling they try to "buy" me... Especially at the very beginning...

In the situation you described, it would be nice if he just invited you to visit him anyway and gave you just a glass of water... But I wouldn't feel comfortable if he "organizes a free coffee" for me... Even if I'm broke, I still have my pride ffs...
