Why would a guy say he was seeing someone if he was not?

This guy and I have been flirting for months. He never took it further, so I got brave and asked him out. He said no because of an age difference. We kept talking and a little later in the conversation he said he was seeing someone. I am almost 100% sure that he isn’t. This was a few weeks ago, and he still has been flirting with me. I am so confused. If he is not interested, why would he not just leave me alone and act indifferent around me. Did he say he was seeing someone as an attempt to hide feelings?

I get it though... it sounds like you wanted something to happen, it didn't... that stings when it happens. Think about that... you pull away and he starts trying a bit harder... He's young, and probably doesn't have the balls yet or the guts, the bravery to just go for it. You give him the greenest light ever and yeah he might still chicken out, but there's a good chance he will go for you as well.

He just like flirting enjoy that enjoy that feeling but in real he doesn't want to have relationship with you or with anyone (Only he knows it's only you or anyone). But definitely he doesn't want to be in relationship with you. Flirting not always has intention of getting into relationship or getting hooked up, some simply enjoy it as some kind game kind. As flirting itself feels good in it.
