Now ideally he should have said, "You look fine the way you are..." or something along those lines, or that's what you were hoping he would say. But since he didn't, he might just be agreeing with you in his own way of trying to be supportive of you.

Basically don't read too much into it. Focus on getting into shape, and feeling good about yourself- but NOT for him. Because if he doesn't like you, some other lucky guy will.
