Early morning last week, I received an unexpected notification on my phone on a bank app, for one of my accounts. The account was almost empty. The amount that was shown as being deposited was enormous - for me. About half a year's salary. The message with it was "happy birthday", in my language. It was not my birthday. There was no name for who deposited the money. All I can find out is the bank branch, nearby where I live.
I am not making this up, I promise.
There's obviously lot of context and background about this. I won't say it all out here, because there is only 2,000 characters, and I don't want to talk away from the title.
This money is enough to clear all of my credit card debts completely. However, I think I know who it is from... a foreign (western) man (I am from a southeast asia developing country). This is a man I knew, I have met, and there was something between us at one point before the pandemic, but I ended it, because, feeling, age difference, and he never doing anything.
I did not have any communication with this man for a long time. I did not ask for his money, but, it is true that I am under financial pressure since before pandemic. I have maximum debt on many credit cards, late payments, and frozen card, getting harass by the banks, and can be blacklisted. So it is true that this money can help a lot. I know what he wants, and I already told him no, he is much older than me - I am 31 he is 48, but it seems he can't let go.
I can't return the money to him, unless I contact him to have somewhere to send it. I can't close the account without moving the money. The bank has a frozen card, and wants to take 20% of the money to clear my debt. It seems like I can't stop it. I don't know how he got my information. My country is corrupt, and nobody will care about my "problem". If he wanted to deposit more money in my account, I don't think I can stop him doing it. I don't know what's going to happen next from him. I don't know what to do.
