He walked me to my car after a group hangout last night (a group hangout), he did try to kiss me but I told him I was not going to kiss him and he would need to take me on a proper date first. He wasn’t pushy about it, he also gave me a self help book (context being I recently got a promotion as a leader at my job and the book is about building a good team and strategies to help you build a high functioning team) it wasn’t like a “hey you need some mental help here’s a book” it was for my career that I’ve spoken very highly of with him. Guys what the heck is he trying to pull over on me?

As for the book, you obviously have had discussions with him and want to do the best you can so he is just giving you a resource to study.
