Playing with/stroking a girl's hair- crossing friendship line?

So my best guy friend and I are close, we're comfortable around each other and we can hang out alone or in a group and be just the same. But lately he's developed a habit of playing with/stroking my hair. Usually, it's just when we're hugging goodbye- he'll reach up and stroke my hair/massage my head while he hugs me. I kind of thought it was friendly affection. But the other night we were just hanging out, I was curled up with my head on his shoulder (normal for us) while we listened to music and he just reach up and started running his fingers through my hair and stroking my head. It didn't make me uncomfortable or anything, but it kind of felt like something a little beyond the friendship line. Guys- is this something you'd do with a female friend just out of casual affection, or is it a sign of something a little more?

Maybe there are somethings that you have done that have pulled him out of the friendzone (in his mind). I have a Female friend and we are close friends but I get random boners when am with her but I still view her as friend. I guess he is reached to a point where you are more than his friend. Well I would not stroke my friend's hair like that. I think that curling your head on his shoulder brings a louder message than intended. By that you have invaded his final stronghold. Think of it as guys being best friend. It is an unlikely thing. For guys who are best friends, I have seen one of my guy friend kissing his best friend guy on his head. I guess it could be that you have reached at the high level friendship where you completely trust each other. My other friend we trust each other to the point that I can talk to him while he is in the shower with the curtain open. It depends on how well you have come to know that person. With Friendships there are levels on how far you could go with your friend.
