I've never been called babe, baby, or anything of that sort by a guy who I haven't met. My boyfriend calls me that though, and I love it. It's a nice way for him to be affectionate to me especially when out and about, as he knows I'm not a big fan of PDA. Plus, I'd rather be called babe than baby-cakes, sugar, muffin, etc. :P
i usually don't like it.. but it depends. sometimes i'll catch myself calling a guy babe. never baby though. but that's after talking for a tiny bit. if i don't know him and he calls me babe or baby.. it's a total turn off.

You don't have to remember her name and she is not a real person, just a babe. An object used for a single purpose. A babe - short for I just don't care enough to know you, but will clump you in with all the other females or animals.
I do not like "baby", "baby", "mama", "daddy", and things like that, because they conjure up the idea of pedophilia and incest. Blech! I do not like other pet names, but the others tend to be at least tolerable.
