I’m 27, and have worked office jobs (now work remotely) for 5 years. I’ve worked closely with about 50 people during this time.
Out of the 50 people, at least 40 were obese or somewhat overweight. 100% of the managers and directors were.
In office jobs, you are sitting at your desk slaving away for at least 8 hours a day. That’s bad for your body in general, but can also mentally impact your drive to exercise once you’re done with work. That’s why it makes sense most people in office jobs end up with health issues. The routine for most people is wake up, get cleaned up and ready for work, eat breakfast, work, run errands, make dinner, sleep, repeat. Some managers and directors I know work 8 am - 8 pm every day.
I happily wake up at 6:30 every day to at least do some exercise (walk, jog, pushups, squats) for 20 minutes before work, because I don’t want to end up like some of the people I work with. I’ve also been eating much healthier throughout the day after noticing this.
It’s too bad that this is what our world has become - having people slave at these soul sucking office jobs because they need the money just to survive. Humans weren’t built for this. I hope things change someday, but the best you can do is try to balance retiring early while making sure you stay physically healthy throughout (no job that requires 12 hours per day at a desk!).

I have a job that involves a lot of sitting. I am mentally exhausted at the end of the day and just want to go home and sit and rest. I try to get up early to go to the gym before work but I don't sleep very well because I have to use a CPAP machine so most mornings I cannot get up a 5AM. As a result I have put weight on over the last year. I don;t feel good, have less energy and my aches and pains are much worse.
Our society is really not very conducive for a healthy lifestyle. Nobody seems to care either.
it is often genetic or overeating not just sitting. even at walking store jobs people are obese.
Perfect example why I’ve never worked a desk job and never will
