HELP!! I'm loosing weight while body building -is that normal?

I'm using the heaviest weights I can lift plus lower reps. I'm trying to get bigger thighs and a bigger butt by doing squats, leg raises, donkey kicks, dead lifts, and etc. yet my butt has grown 1/2 inch and my thighs have grown an inch and 1/2 BUT everyone keeps saying I'm loosing weight. Do you loose weight and then gain muscles? Is this normal? Because clearly my butt has gotten bigger and so is my thighs but I look smaller all together? Is it because I'm loosing fat and there's just "muscles" left?
