I'm currently trying to get more into weights! I just posted a question asking to critique my new workout regime which starts introducing some more resistance, it would be helpful to get your perspective on this if you're willing! https:// www. girlsaskguys. com/ health-fitness/ q1278189-please-can-you-critique-my-workout-routine (remove the gaps)
I have focused on mostly cardio, legs and abs in the routine because those hit my targets. I don't want to spend hours working on my arms because I have literally no concern over my arms at all, whereas for my abs I do! I think this is true of lots of women, abs and legs are key areas that we stereotypically feel self-conscious about. And the cardio is to build my general fitness and help me reach my goal of running a 10k.
I do agree though that women should be less afraid of weights and realise weight does NOT equally bulky and manly muscles!

Well someone has put this idea in women's heads that lifting weights will make them look like male body builders. Also I know a lot of us think the way to lose weight is a lot of cardio, plus a little strength training and barely eating good. Also they only work a couple of areas because they think of one spot reduction or they don't know their body is a unit that should be worked all around
Yea I've noticed that to and its called mainstream media and ignorance, not trying to sound rude but that is exactly what it is.
Ignorance. Really unfortunate too because weight training can really boost your metabolism.

Probably because we've all been told that lifting weights makes you look manly, and no woman wants to look manly obviously. It may also be that since the weight area is mostly filled with guys, they're likely going to be checked out or even approached when they're trying to work out. A lot of women don't like to be approached at the gym. It can be annoying.
Lots of women are also more into toning muscle rather than building it, because it's easier for us. So that's where the cardio and yoga kind of stuff comes into play. I think it's important to do cardio, but it's also equally important to do weights so there's a balance and you get a more complete workout. That's what I've been doing for years, and I play sports too. I'm not afraid of lifting with all the dudes in the weight area, lol. Lololol. I workout harder than 80% of the guys, no joke. I do minimal cardio. I do 2 arm days a week 1 back day and 1 leg day. Saturdays I'll usually do a mixture of whatever I want or need. I can't stand girls walking around doing nothing!!!
I'm a girl and I lift weight but only because I have to.. But I hate it and feel I'm getting to muscly for a girl and therefore less attractive. It's just the fear of become too much like a man.. (Well that's why it is according to the girls I talk to anyways)
I love weights but I also just downloaded a full season of Adventure Time to watch on the treadmill so...
Not all girls do. I've always worked out everything and always wound up in the weight room afterwards. My favorite part of the gym is the weight room.
They do it because they don't really know what they're doing and they're afraid of building too much muscle. Of course this won't happen.
Because we want a full body workout, and we want nicer legs
What are you the gym police wise guy eh? Eh?
