Like others have said don't go under it. But 1200 is only good if you're 5'3 or so. If you're more than that I'd reccomend upping it to 13 or 1400.
Get in good amounts of protein too. Lack of protein causes you to lose muscle mass which in turn makes you sag a little. If you're interested in a quick fix, try a ketogenic diet or carb cycling. It will get rid of a lot of water weight but you'll feel like shit for a week or so while your body adjusts to using ketones as a fuel instead of glucose (which is derived from carbs).

No you won't go into starvation mode at 1200 calories, you should be fine with that amount. You might feel hungry at times but you won't starve. It's a good amount if you want to lose weight along with exercise.
I saw somewhere that starvation mode is a myth. 1200 calories is fine - apparently you shouldn't go under that though...
