How to deal with stress and anger with out OxyContin and Vicodin?

I've been an on and off addict for 3 years now. How do you manage stress, anger and anxiety with out them?

I found that exercise relieves a ton of stress and anxiety for me, and even provides a natural high afterwards if I pushed myself particularly hard in a workout session. Find a good hobby that takes up a lot of attention, it'll be more difficult to think about things that upset you. If religion helps, do that to.

OxyContin is a high desirable prescription pill in my area. I think it goes for a dollar a pop. Addictive. Were you prescribed it?

You know they make medication for anxiety? The kinda nd that won't land you in rehab.

You have to be careful with those kinds of drugs though, the side effects can be horrendous. I have moderate anxiety that should probably be medicated according to some people, but I don't want to trade it for another issue.

You've got to be kidding me. I can't think of a single medication that doesn't have side effects. Hell, even birth control has side effects and that's not even a drug!

Common side effects of anxiety medications include drowsiness, lack of energy, clumsiness, slow reflexes, slurred speech, confusion, disorientation, and depression.

Medications are almost never simply a cure, they're more of a trade. We just have to decide which is easier to deal with- and personally, I'll take anxiety over what the medication will give me.

Working out always does it for me. I do a long HIIT session on a spin bike or elliptical trainer. I listen to old 70's rock anthems (Won't get Fooled Again", Born To Run" "Fire And Rain") and really work myself up into a rage. I leave it all on the gym floor along with a nice puddle of sweat.
