Does your bf's smoking affect your health?

I know this is really random but I'm curious. So ever since I started dating my boyfriend (who smokes) I have been getting regular old canker sores. I only get to see him every 2 weeks and it seems like most of the time we are together I end up getting canker sores (1 or 2 @ a time). Is it possible for the tobacco to affect me when we kiss and cause my canker sores? He doesn't have any sores so I know he isn't passing anything to me, plus canker sores aren't contagious. Has this happened to anyone else?

Smoking cannot cause canker sores (although cigars and dip can irritate the mouth lining). Mouth cankers are caused by Herpes Simplex I, which you can carry and transmit without displaying symptoms. It is incurable but resolves spontaneously in many people. Herpes Simplex I is NOT an STD but Herpes Simplex II is.

Herpes Simplex II can also be contagious AND asymptomatic. The same is true for many other STD's. In fact, about 50% of men with gonorrhea present with no symptoms.

Most definitely. 2nd hand smoking can cause serious, harmful, long-term side effects. That's the main reason why I will not date a smoker.

It could be causing it. Second hand smoke affects your health also. Try to get him to stop smoking.

He has told me he wants to stop and he knows I want him to stop but he's been a smoker for 16 years now and I know its hard to quit. I'm gonna keep encouraging him too though. The nurse in me will hopefully get him to try at least.

How does salt help? (Genuinely curious here, not being snarky). I'm gonna wait a little longer and see if him being home correlates with my sores and if it does I'm hoping maybe the fact that it is also affecting my health will encourage him to quit.

No idea but canker sores are extremely contagious

I was worried about that but from what I can tell from my research only cold sores are contagious. Canker sores caused by irritation/stress aren't and my boyfriend never gets them from me

Is the sore in or outside of your mouth?

No inside on the roof of my mouth and sometimes on my bottom gum line

After looking it up I realized I was one of the people that thought cold sores and canker sores were the same. Sorry but after looking it up the canker sore couldn't be caused by you boyfriend but there are definitely health risks with having anyone close to you in life who smokes.
