I bleed from my gums when I floss?

I bleed from my gums when i floss on one side of my moth, I only bleed from my bottom right gums, and it only happens if i floss on that side and/or if i brush to hard.

I have had this for a year now i think and after haing for some months i went to the dentist and they told my gums were perfectly healthy and they didn't see anything wrong. When i bleed, those times i do floss on that side (very rarely) i do it for just some seconds. So i dont bleed for long, maybe 30 sec or so.

Anyone that has experienced something similar that might know what it can be?

I am not sure what your dentist is thinking but you are describing the beginning of periodontal disease. My best advice is to start using a Waterpic regularly. Pour a capful of Listerine in warm water and squirt it under the gum line every night before bed. Once a week, switch to peroxide and warm water. Also continue to floss. I would recommend you begin brushing with an Oral B Sonic Toothbrush but that is not as critical.

Your gums will stop bleeding within a week or so.

Ha, ha. Well, periodontal disease is serious but the progression is very slow. It could be years before it affected your bite. Periodontal disease is essentially a low-grade, localized infection under the gums. It gradually erodes the bone and the gums recede along with it. Eventually, it will loosen your teeth if left completely unchecked.

Don't be scared but do take action.

Might have brushed too hard. Generally, if it's inflammation, you would have severe pain somewhere in your cheek.
There's a toothpaste brand called "Sensodyne". Not sure if it exists where you are at. Visit your local pharmacy and buy a tube for bleeding gums. The pharmacist will know what you are talking about even if you don't. Those toothpastes at your local grocery store on 50% are usually crap: Colgate, Blend-a-med and who knows what else.

Also, the proper toothpastes taste differently, so it might take some time for you to get used to it.

but i have been using colgate since always so it would be weird if that was the problem and i normally only bleed if i floss there, i very rarely bleed if i just brush

Meaning your toothpaste doesn't address your gum issues. No matter what they say in the ads, every single dentist will tell you to throw colgate in the trash.

I Googled "toothpaste comparison" and most responses were comparisons for specific features like whitening. A couple of general comparisons were at Prevention. com and at Consumersearch. com. Both had good things to say about Colgate. At Consumersearch. com, Colgate Total was rated the "Best Reviewed". According to both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Dental Association (ADA), this was the first toothpaste on the market to include the antibacterial ingredient triclosan, which has been proven effective for fighting gum disease (gingivitis)". And fighting gum disease would seem to be what she needs. If the ADA gives its seal, it has tested the product not only for safety, but for effectiveness, which is more than the FDA does. And looking at the FDA site, they have given their seal of approval to many lines of Colgate (for different problems as well as for general use).

Yes, and the Colgate ads also feature smiles that have been washed with baking soda, which is a known fact, it whitens teeth abnormally, albeit temporarily. General rule of thumb: the less flashy their ads, the more likely it is their product has quality.

In order to acquire objective statistics, you shouldn't look for it in the commercial section, which is the jack of all trades, but master of none and also subject to deviation (from the truth).

This is an article published somewhere in the summer last year which directly challenges Colgate and its ingredients, specifically the triclosan. The toothpaste is briefly criticized and the majority focuses on the effects of triclosan.

Passing an FDA test is not sufficient justification.

Your teeth flesh is infected. Clean your mouth with a desinfecting mouth wash solution every day (not a mouth refreshener, but a real desinfection liquid). So no listerine, but e. g. perio-aid or hextril (ask in your pharmacy)

It probably means you're not brushing/flossing well enough. That's what an orthodontist told me once.

You are either going too deep , too fast and/or too hard.
Or maybe your gums are swollen and is sensitive to pressure , which your dentists has ruled out.

Your gums might just be sensitive on that side. If the doc says it's cool, then it's cool.

Floss everyday they say but floss very lightly in the sore areas
