Is there anyway to cure sleep apnea?

I sleep at my boyfriends 3 nights out of the week and he always tells me that I scare him when I'm asleep because according to him I snore (quietly) but then I'll make a small noise that makes it sound like I'm suffocating and stop breathing for at least 10 seconds before I actually do breathe again.
This is apparently just in the last 3 weeks but yea it does concern him as it frightens him when I stop breathing.

There is a surgical procedure but it doesn't always work. Some of the alternative health "gurus" out there on the internet say you can improve it by conditioning the muscles in your airway by doing things like tongue exercises or playing the digeridoo.

CPAP machines are the standard treatment but you need a prescription and they're not cheap.

You can get retainers and chin straps on eBay that are designed to keep your airway open. Some people have success with them. For me the chin strap didn't work and the retainer hurts my teeth and jaw.

Well I had an operation to extend my palate at the back of my neck to get rid of the nasality in my voice... But this operation was 2 months ago and this is in the last 3 weeks it has occurred. I do wear a retainer but it's for social wear (I have two missing front teeth due to birth defect) but no retainer for sleep

Yeah like I said, that stuff doesn't always work. CPAP is the only sure fire treatment.

Well, exercise and losing weight help. If you smoke quitting makes a big difference. To be healthy, you need to use a CPAP machine. Sleep Apnea can kill you.

I suffer from it. I have to use a bi-pap to manage.. The only cure for me is to lose weight.

I'm actually underweight according to my BMI so I don't think your solution is my solution :/

There is surgery in some cases. Mine is that my tongue is too big in the back. When I lose weight it gets reduced. You need to see an ENT!!

Do you have horrific nightmares like I do, when you have the apneas?

Yea the tongue thing is probably not my problem either, I had an operation to extend my palette at back of the neck to get rid of my nasality and no I don't get nightmares... Well I do but not every night but they aren't really terrifying.

On a working day at least 6-8 hours, on a weekend a little longer

I don't think sleep apnea has anything to do with how often I sleep.
