Information and side effects of The Pill?

Thinking about taking the pill, mainly to regulate periods but I know a couple of the side effects, including gaining weight. I realise how pathetic it must seem, but that alone put me off taking the pill. This is because I've had issues with weight in the past and having worked like hell to lose it, I've recently been diagnosed as bulimic. I'm working well to beat it, but the fear of gaining weight will always be there.

If you are sexually active, the pros always outway the cons.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of cons to taking the pill, the one you mention is a very real one and I can completely understand why you would feel that way.

That said, putting a baby on the planet in an environment that isn't ready for it, in the grand scheme of things, is much much worse than your personal weight issues.

Of course, I wouldn't ever want to do that to my child. I think it's just getting past the weight issue. I feel like I'm about 14st but you can see my ribs. It's seriously fucked me up and I couldn't bear to put another pound on.

That is a problem that lives in your head. If you feel like this is really in the way of you living your life, i. e. it literally stops you being happy, you should consider speaking to a professional about it, because that is not a fun life to live.

I thought about that too, its not natural and I don't want excess chemicals and hormones in my body

I've been on 3 different kinds of pills (yasmin, yaz and meliane) and none of them gave me any side effects except yaz (migraines and depression). It really depends on the pill and your body. Not everyone has the same symptoms so it's impossible to say what kind of symptoms you'll have.

It's the chance, no matter how slim, of getting the side effects that terrifies me.

Then don't take it? Especially if you're not sexually active or planning to be anytime soon.

i have always gained weight while on the pill... Are your periods really so bad?

Yeah, they get heavier every time and they're really irregular

I think this is normal although the pill is only ever a temporary fix... you can't be on it forever... do you get pains etc?

Rarely, but when I do its excruciating

Feminax (or paracetamol and codeine) will solve that, as will popping an aspirin a day and keeping up on iron pills while you are on. Start taking an iron pill a day because it may help you become regular.

I think the pill is a bit of a last resort for this stuff if I am honest... especially of you are worried about your weight. It could be because of your bulimia that you are having these problems... but the above should help that x

The pill effects different people differently, I've been on it since I was 16 and it didn't effect my weight but it did mess up my periods, like I didn't get them for 6months then I had two in one month :L if you're worried about side effects see if they can give you the one you take everyday and have 7 days off, that's meant to affect you less

I didn't gain weight... nothing happened to me really. I was more depressed for the first little while but am over it now
